A canine microchip is a small, rice-sized device implanted under a dog’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. It contains a unique identification number that can be read by a special scanner. This number is registered in a database with the owner’s contact information. If a lost dog is found and scanned, the owner can be contacted, helping to reunite them with their pet. The chip doesn’t have GPS, so it can’t track a dog’s location, but it’s a permanent form of identification.
